ERDAS 9.3 Software and Image Analysis Stereo Analyst extensions to ArcGIS v 9.3 Network License Troubleshooting
ERDAS 9.3 Software and Image Analysis Stereo Analyst extensions to ArcGIS v 9.3 Network License Troubleshooting
This answer contains ERDAS 9.3 Software (as well as ERDAS versions 2010 an d2011) and Image Analysis Stereo Analyst extensions to ArcGIS v 9.3 Network License troubleshooting information.

In order to troubleshoot problems, user must:

  1. Get administrative privileges from Gadgets.
  2. User must have ERDAS Imagine version 9.3 or later, LPS 9.3 or later, Image Analysis for ArcGIS 9.3, or Stereo Analyst for ArcGIS 9.3 or later installed.
Note: Earlier versions use a different License Manager.

Problem Summary:

The FlexNET redundant licensing system seems to be more prone to timeout issues on the client end than with the earlier FlexLM System.

Troubleshooting:

  1. Open the ERDAS License Administration tool by going to Start - Programs - ERDAS - ERDAS Net Licensing - License Administration.
  2. Expand the currently installed License Sources by clicking on the plus (+) sign by the License Sources Folder. The three license sources should be listed as in the image below.

    • If license sources are present, expand each folder to see if licenses are available.
    • If license sources are not listed, refer to Click Here.
  3. If license sources are listed, but failing to connect to the license servers then a timeout issue is occurring. Right-click on My Computer and go to Properties. Click on the Advanced tab and then click on the Environment Variables button.
  4. Under the System Variables box, look for a FLEXLM_TIMEOUT variable.
    • If the FLEXLM_TIMEOUT variable is preset:
-Highlight the variable by clicking on it and click the edit button under System Variables.
      -Change the Value to 3000000.
-Click OK on all windows to apply the change.
-Restart the computer and check the license.
    • If the FLEXLM_TIMEOUT variable is not present:
      -Click New under System Variables.
-Enter FLEXLM_TIMEOUT under the Variable name.
      -Enter 3000000 under Variable value.

-Click OK on all windows to accept the changes and reboot the computer.
  5. After rebooting try opening ERDAS Imagine by going Start - Programs - ERDAS - Geospatial Imaging 9.3 - ERDAS Imagine 9.3. In most cases the software will now connect to the license server and operate normally.

Advanced Troubleshooting:

If the software still does not connect to the license server network, latency is severe, and should be reported to the Network Group. Setting the FLEXLM_TIMEOUT variable to 3 million allows 3 seconds to connect to the server. This time should be more than sufficient.

  1. Have the user open a Command Prompt and ping each of the license servers, and record the maximum and average round trip connection time in the incident.
    • Ping rsac_lm1.gsc.wo.fs.fed.us
    • Ping rsac_lm2.gsc.wo.fs.fed.us
    • Ping rsac_lm3.gsc.wo.fs.fed.us

  2. Open the ERDAS License Administration tool by going to Start - Programs - ERDAS - ERDAS Net Licensing - License Administration.
  3. Expand the currently installed License Sources by clicking on the plus (+) sign by the License Sources folder.
  4. Delete each of the three license sources by right clicking each license source and selecting Remove license source.Image
  5. On the Server menu select Add Remote Server.
  6. Enter 166.2.126.51 in the License server text box and click OK.
  7. Click the plus (+) next to the 166.2.126.51 license source to determine if licenses are available.
  8. If licenses are preset, add 166.2.126.52 and 166.2.126.53 using the same steps. Only one license server connection is required for software operation, however, the licensing will not have an redundancy.
  9. Try opening ERDAS Imagine by going Start - Programs - ERDAS - Geospatial Imaging 9.3 - ERDAS Imagine 9.3.

If licensing is not successful, transfer incident to the Remote Sensing Application queue.
